Theme: Jesus, the beautiful door
Text: At 3
Introduction: historical context
The text begins by speaking of the apostles Peter and John, who went to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth, and they found the door of the temple, Calls the beautiful, a man who des from the womb of his mother was lame. Here, in this text, we find a message for the strengthening of the Lord's church. The Acts of the Apostles was written by Luke which the ap O stolo Paul calls him "the beloved physician" Cl 4.14.He did not walk with Jesus and was not an apostle, he wrote the third gospel, and the book of deeds , but he begins the book of deeds saying: I made the first treatise Theophilus about all that Jesus began not only to do, but to teach. The purpose of this book is to demonstrate how the holy spirit acted in the life of the apostles after the accession of Jesus. Written around the year 80/90 after Christ . Along with the third gospel which gives its name "the gospel of Luke" was a single volume, the book of deeds still had no title of its own, only about the year 150 when it was separated from the gospel of Luke, there was a need to a title.Someone suggested that the book could be called "acts of the holy spirit" rather than acts of the apostles, because much is said of the works of the holy spirit. There are several apocryphal books with titles similar to Acts, such as Acts of Thomas, Acts of Andrew, Acts of Paul, and Acts of John. The book of Acts of the Apostles along with the Gospel of Luke forms a single volume.
Number 1 The Pedro and João church
The sacred text begins with two apostles, Peter and John, these two apostles of Jesus Christ, had something in common, both had a vast experience with the master which other disciples did not have. Pedro was somewhat impulsive, often acting for a momentary impulse, remember when he ventured to walk on the water? He was the only one of the apostles who had the courage to jump off the boat to meet Jesus. Its namemeans stone , which portrays a bit of its character and reputation as tough. Stone represents strength, solidity, firmness, Jesus himself declares: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. ( MT 16:18 ) Peter represents the strength of the church and the hard part that it has.
Already the apostle John, known as the beloved disciple, was more sentimental, it is no wonder that in his epistles he speaks much about brotherly love. He leaned his head on Jesus' breast, followed all the suffering of Jesus and did not run away. He was the only one to whom Jesus spoke words while he was on the cross, when he said: son, behold your mother ...
Soon John represents the loving part of the church.
Number 2 the hour of God and the miracle of the lame
The two apostles were on their way to the temple at the time of the ninth prayer. One, representing the firmness of the church the other the love that the church has.
This was an official prayer for the apostles.
Third hour: from 06:00 a.m. to 09:00 a.m. in the morning;
Sixth hour: from 09:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Ninth hour: from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.;
Thirteenth hour: from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Meaning that God has set time to operate, let's see more, now about the night vigils.
First vigil: from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (night)
Second vigil: from 9:00 pm to midnight;
Third vigil: from 24:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m. (dawn);
Fourth vigil: from 03:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. (dawn).
Peter and John went up to pray the ninth hour and healed a paralytic, the centurion Cornelius received a vision almost at the ninth hour and converted with the preaching of Peter. "On the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto the disciples , walking on the sea" MT 14.25
"From the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over the earth.
About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lamá sabactani ; this is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? "
Matthew 27:45, 46
Matthew 27:45, 46
The sacred text says that there was a man who was lame from his mother's womb and every day someone put him at the door of the temple called beautiful, because she was called beautiful? She had something special made of bronze of the city of Corinth, and shone from afar, many saw its light. This door gave access to the interior of the temple. The lame man was a representation of the misery of sin, he was despised by society and family, and every day people put him in the door of the temple and the one who pitied gave him alms.
Application:
The world without salvation is like this paralyzed cripple with no chance of a dignified life, without peace, without love, without plans and depending on alms to survive. Many of those who call themselvesbelievers of salvation today do not share with the many lame and beggars for sin, salvation in the person of Christ Jesus . This door represents Lord Jesus when he said: I am the door, can you take the stone to enter through this door? Or will you let him stay? asking for the alms of sin?
Number 3 acting with what we have
When they were approached by the beggar at the door of the temple, Peter and John stared at him, said: look at us, and looking at them hoping to receive something from them.
Application:
What does the world expect from us that we are the Lord's church? We do great events, gospel shows, hire artists to brighten up the party, rent huge stages with artificial light and smoke, advertise on social networks, spend money on expensive advertisements, we name the singers gospel and great preachers, but the lame yet is at the door waiting to receive something from you. We can only give what we have if we have silver, then we give silver, if we have gold then we give gold, if we have salvation and miracles then we must give freely we receive it for free. Peter and John were the portraits of the church that had something more precious than silver and gold , and they gave to the man who lay at the door of the temple.
Conclusion:
Then Peter said , we have no silver or gold, but what we have so we give you in the name of Jesus of Nazareth raises -t and walk, and took him by the right hand and lifted him up. Acts 3.6.7
Finally, the one who lived on alms at the door of the temple now received a new life in Christ Jesus, because the church Peter and John were in action. Be a believer with power, authority, and salvation, to give to anyone who asks you, do not let the world just in the door let him enter through it. Many marveled at the transformation that God had made in the life of that man and glorified the Lord . O how good it is when we let Jesus use us to accomplish his purposes on earth.
Prayer:
O Lord, creator of the heavens and the earth and everything in them, we want to be more used by the power of the holy spirit, just as the church of the first century was. Create in us Christians a more supportive heart to speak more of your saving grace on earth, in the name of Jesus we ask you. Amen!
